HOWARD FISHMAN QUARTET
From their not-so-humble beginnings at The Algonquin Oak Room where they received glowing notices from The New York Times, the Howard Fishman Quartet became a permanent fixture in NYC by exploring their roots in jazz, country and blues. The ever-evolving HFQ is now proving their chops by experimenting with the sounds of pop, rock, punk and hip hop.
Jian Ghomeshi is best known as a the lead singer, drummer and songwriter of the multi-platinum Canadian folk-rock group Moxy Fruvous. As a solo artist, he takes center stage with an equal share of storytelling troubadour and pop/rock sensation, where he blends his passion for humor and politics with beautiful melodies and poignant personal lyrics.
Winner of Album of the Year at this year's Independent Music Awards (for Clairvoyance), Johnny Society is a band that rocks with the coolness quotient of bands like Blur or Pavement, and the lyrical quality of Paul McCartney by way of Long Island. This band appreciates the great pop/rock sounds of the 60's and 70's, while having the skill and savvy to bring a freshness to the genre.
Boston-based singer-songwriter Lori McKenna makes honest, heartfelt and haunting music, with the guts to display her impassioned lyrics without any distracting bells and whistles. Listening to the 31 year-old mother of four's tales of the victories and obstacles of real life in the real world, you cannot help but feel moved by being privy to this woman's most private thoughts.
